简介:LargeHighEnergyandNuclearPhysics(HENP)databasesarecommonlystoredonrobotictapesystemsbecauseofcostconsiderations.Later,selectedsubsetsofthedataarecachedintodiskcachesforanalysisordatamining.Becauseoftherelativelylongtimetomount,seek,andreadatape,itisimportanttominimizethenumberoftimesthatdataiscachedintodisk.Havingtoolittlediskcachewillforcefilestoberemovedfromdiskprematurely,thusreducingthepotentialoftheirsharingwithotherusers.Similarly,havingtoofewtapedriveswillnotmakegooduseofalargediskcache,asthethroughputfromthetapesystemwillformthebottleneck.Balancingthetapeanddiskresourcesisdependentonthepatternsoftherequeststothedata.Inthispaper,wedescribeasimulationthatcharacterizessuchasystemintermsofthersourcesandtherequestpatterns.Welearnfromthesimulationwhichparametersaffecttheperformanceofthesystemthemost.Wealsoobservefromthesimulationthat,thereisapointbeyondwhichitisnotworthinvestinginadditionalresourcesasthebenefitistoomarginal.Wecallthispointthe"point-of-no-benefit"(orPNB),andshowthatusingthisconceptwecanmoreeasilydiscovertherelationshipofvariousparameterstotheperformanceofthesystem.

简介:Atmosphericconcentrationsofpolycyclicaromatichydrocarbons(PAHs)weremeasuredduringvariousseasonsatsixdifferentcities/locationsinQingdaoalongshore.TheannualaveragePAHsconcentrationrangedfrom16ng/m3(atacleancom-paredsite)to308ng/m3(inanindustrysite).TheaveragetotalparticulatePAHsconcentrationwas74.5ng/m3withahigherconcentrationofparticulatePAHsinwinter.Basedonayear-rounddataset,thesourcesofPAHsintheairofQingdaoweredrawnbyprincipalfactoranalysisandcorrelationanalysis.TheresultsindicatedthatvehicleemissionsandoilburningwerethemainsourceofPAHsinQingdaoalongshore.
简介:Rhythmofbrainactivitiesrepresentsoscillationsofpostsynapticpotentialsinneocortex,thereforeitcanserveasanindicatorofthebrainactivitystate.Inordertochecktheconnectivityofbrainrhythm,thispaperdevelopsanewmethodofconstructingfunctionalnetworkbasedonphasesynchronization.Electroencephalogram(EEG)datawerecollectedwhilesubjectslookingatagreencrossintwostates,performinganattentiontaskandrelaxingwitheyes-open.TheEEGfromthesetwostateswasfilteredbythreeband-passfilterstoobtainsignalsoftheta(4-7Hz),alpha(8-13Hz)andbeta(14-30Hz)bands.Meanresultantlengthwasusedtoestimatestrengthofphasesynchronizationinthreebandstoconstructnetworksofbothstates,andmeandegreeKandclustercoefficientCofnetworkswerecalculatedasafunctionofthreshold.Theresultshowshigherclustercoefficientintheattentionstatethanintheeyes-openstateinallthreebands,suggestingthatclustercoefficientreflectsbrainstate.Inaddition,anobviousfronto-parietalnetworkisfoundintheattentionstate,whichisawell-knownattentionnetwork.Theseresultsindicatethatattentionmodulatesthefronto-parietalconnectivityindifferentmodesascomparedwiththeeyes-openstate.Takentogetherthismethodisanobjectiveandimportanttooltostudythepropertiesofneuralnetworksofbrainrhythm.

简介:Hightemperaturelatentthermalstorageisoneofthecriticaltechniquesforasolardynamicpowersystem.Thispaperpresentsresultsfromheattransferanalysisofaphasechangesaltcontainmentcanister.Athree-dimensionalanalysisprogramisdevelopedtomodelheattransferinaPCMcanister.Analysisincludeeffectsofasymmetriccircumferenceheatflux,conductionincanisterwalls,liquidPCMandsolidPCM,voidvolumechangeandvoidlocation,andconductionandradiationacrossPCMvaporvoid.ThePCMphasechangeprocessismodeledusingtheenthalpymethodandthesimulationresultsarecomparedwiththoseofothertwo-dimensionalinvestigations.It'sshownthattherearelargedifferencewithtwo-dimensionalanalysis,thereforethethree-dimensionalmodelisnecessaryforsystemdesignofhightemperaturelatentthermalstorage.
