Turbiditycurrentsareflowsdrivenbysuspendedsedimentofflood-inducedturbidriverwaterwithexcessdensity.Suchcurrentsareoftenthegoverningfactorinreservoirsedimentationbytransportingfinematerialsoverlongdistancesanddeliveringthemajorityofdeposition,whichthusreducesthestoragecapacity.Therefore,thedesignandoperationofareservoirrequiresanaccuratepredictionofitsoccurrenceconditionandplungingposition,whichistheobjectiveofthepresentstudy.Thisarticlepresentsaverifiedalgebraicslipmixturemodelincludingmomentum,continuityandalgebraicvelocityexpressionstosimulate2-Dturbiditycurrents.Testexperimentsinamultiphaseflumewerecarriedout.Reynoldsnumber,sedimentconcentrationanddensimetricFroudenumberwereusedasparametersintheoccurrenceconditionanalysis.Theplungingofturbiditycurrentsmayproducerefluxandbackflowduetothepingflowatthesurfaceoftheclearwater.ThesimilarexperimentalresultswerealsoobtainedbyPIVmeasurements
