简介:AbstractBackground:With the progress of globalization, international mobility increases, greatly facilitating cross-border transmission of respiratory infectious diseases (RIDs). This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics and factors influencing imported RIDs, with the goal of providing evidence to support adoption of high-tech, intel-ligent methods to early find imported RIDs and prevent their spread in China.Methods:We obtained data of imported RIDs cases from 2014 to 2018 from the Inbound Sentinel Network of Customs and the National Notifiable Diseases Reporting System in China. We analyzed spatial, temporal, and population distribution characteristics of the imported RIDs. We developed an index to describe seasonality. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to examine associations between independent variables and imported cases. Data analyses and visualizations were conducted with R software.Results:From a total of 1 409 265 253 inbound travelers, 31 732 (2.25/100 000) imported RIDs cases were reported. RIDs cases were imported from 142 countries and five continents. The incidence of imported RIDs was nearly 5 times higher in 2018 (2.81/100 000) than in 2014 (0.58/100 000). Among foreigners, incidence rates were higher among males (5.32/100 000), 0–14-year-olds (15.15/100 000), and cases originating in Oceania (11.10/100 000). The vast majority (90.3%) of imported RIDs were influenza, with seasonality consistent with annual seasonality of influenza. The spatial distribution of imported RIDs was different between Chinese citizens and foreigners. Increases in inbound travel volume and the number of influenza cases in source countries were associated with the number of imported RIDs.Conclusions:Our study documented importation of RIDs into China from 142 countries. Inbound travel poses a significant risks bringing important RIDs to China. It is urgent to strengthen surveillance at customs of inbound travelers and establish an intelligent surveillance and early warning system to prevent importation of RIDs to China for preventing further spread within China.
简介:AbstractThoracic splenosis is the autotransplantation of splenic tissue in the left thoracic cavity as a result of a splenic injury. This rare pathology is usually asymptomatic and may be discovered on incidental imaging, but the diagnosis often requires invasive procedures such as surgery in order to eliminate a neoplasic origin. We report a rare symptomatic case of a 39-year-old man presenting with chest pain and multiple nodules revealed on a computed tomography scan. The patient underwent a surgical exploration and the pathological studies concluded to a thoracic splenosis. Indeed, the previous medical history of the patient revealed a left thoraco-abdominal traumatism during childhood. The aim of this paper is to emphasize that the diagnosis can now be performed using only imaging techniques such as technetium-99 sulfur colloid or labelled heat-denatured red blood cell scintigraphy to avoid unnecessary invasive procedures including thoracotomy.

简介:AbstractTo monitor the presence of enteric pathogens in imported seafood, a total of 140 seafood samples imported from eight overseas countries were collected from Beijing, Dalian, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Wuhan seafood markets from June to November 2019. Additionally, 116 viral, environmental swab samples were also collected from the Wuhan and Guangzhou seafood markets. Five typical enteric bacterial pathogens (Aeromonas spp., Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Vibrio spp., and Listeria monocytogenes) and four viruses (Rotavirus, Norovirus, Astrovirus, and Sapovirus) were detected positive. Results showed that eight Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolates appeared in seafood imported to Dalian, Wuhan, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing. In contrast, Vibrio fluvialis and Aeromonas were isolated in another two samples. Norovirus was detected in one oyster sample imported from France and environmental surface in Guangzhou. The remaining pathogens were negative in all the samples being tested. With 120 V. parahaemolyticus isolates from the above countries, the genomic analysis revealed that sequence type ST1152 isolates imported from Canada were clustered with two V. parahaemolyticus isolates from Canada. This study presented the first microbiological analysis of the Wuhan seafood market before the outbreak of COVID-19, which demonstrated that supervision should be strengthened to prevent enteric pathogens via imported seafood.

简介:AbstractIntroduction:Histiocytoses are localized or systemic diseases that can broadly be classified into Langerhans cell histiocytosis and non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis. Juvenile Xanthogranuloma (JXG) belongs to the latter group, which occurs in around 0.5% population younger than 5 years, and presents as solitary or multiple lesions.Here, we present a case of disseminated JXG in an infant with the lesions regressing spontaneously.Case presentation:A 7-month-old boy presented with multiple erythematous nodular lesions over the body excluding limbs for 3 months. Initial laboratory work up was normal. Skin histopathology showed a dermal nodule with sheets of histiocytes exhibiting grooved vesicular nuclei and pale eosinophilic cytoplasm along with touton giant cells. Immunohistochemistry markers further confirmed the diagnosis. Lesions healed completely with symptomatic relief in 1.5 years and no recurrence occurred.Discussion:Disseminated JXG is a benign childhood disorder that can sometimes be associated with internal organs involvement mainly bones, eyes, and brain. Serious complications may follow in case of extracutaneous spread. Most frequently, JXG follows the occurrence of another neoplastic disorder but can sometimes appear de novo. Skin biopsy is required for the diagnosis and better education of the family.Conclusion:JXG in infancy is a rarity in South Asia. Therefore, along with the clinical judgment, clinicians must also get histological confirmation in order to manage this disorder successfully. Close surveillance for multiorgan involvement is also required to avoid any irreversible sequalae.
