简介:Thepulseamplificationinthedispersion-decreasingfiber(DDF)isinvestigatedviasymboliccomputationtosolvethevariable-coefficienthigher-ordernonlinearSchr(o|¨)dingerequationwiththeeffectsofthird-orderdispersion,self-steepening,andstimulatedRamanscattering.Theanalyticone-solitonsolutionofthismodelisobtainedwithasetofparametricconditions.Basedonthissolution,thefundamentalsolitonisshowntobeamplifiedintheDDF.ThecomparisonoftheamplitudeofpulsesfordifferentdispersionprofilesoftheDDFisalsoperformedthroughthegraphicalanalysis.Theresultsofthispaperwouldbeofcertainvaluetothestudyofsignalamplificationandpulsecompression.
简介:Inthispaper,astructuralanalysisisperformedtogaininsightsonthesynergisticmechanicalamplificationeffectthatCampaniformsensillahavewhencombinedinanarrayconfiguration.Inordertosimplifytheanalysisperformedinthispreliminaryinvestigation,anarrayoffourholesinasingleorthotropiclaminaisconsidered.Firstly,aFiniteElementMethod(FEM)analysisisperformedtodiscretelyassesstheinfluencethatdifferentgeometricalparametershaveonthemechanicalamplificationpropertiesofthearray.Secondly,anartificialneuralnetworkisusedtoobtainanapproximatedmulti-dimensionalcontinuousfunction,whichmodelstherelationshipbetweenthegeometricalparametersandtheamplificationpropertiesofthearray.Thirdly,anoptimizationisperformedtoidentifythegeometricalparametersyieldingthemaximummechanicalamplification.Finally,resultsarevalidatedwithanadditionalFEMsimulationperformedbyvaryinggeometricalparametersintheneighborhoodoftheidentifiedoptimalparameters.ThemethodproposedinthispapercanbefullyautomatedandusedtosolveawiderangeofoptimizationproblemsaimedatidentifyingoptimalconfigurationsofstrainsensorsinspiredbyCampaniformsensilla.

简介:PastresearchershaveanticipatedtheoccurrenceofagreatearthquakeinthecentralHimalayasinthenearfuture.ThismaycauseseriousdamageintheKathmanduValley,whichsitsonanancientlakebedzone,withlacustrinesedimentsofmorethan500mdepth.Inthisstudy,thepredominantfrequencyofgroundmotionisevaluatedusingtheHorizontal-to-Vertical(H/V)spectralratiotechniqueandrecordingsofambientnoise.TheresultsoftheH/Vratioshowtwopeaksinabout20percentofthelocations,whicharedistributedmainlyinandaroundthecenterandnorthernpartoftheKathmanduValley.Thepredominantfrequenciesvaryfrom0.5Hzto8.9Hzinthestudyarea,whereasthesecondresonancefrequencyvariesfrom4Hzto6Hzinthecenterandnorthernpartofthevalley.Thisindicatesthatthecenterandnorthernpartofthevalleyhaveawiderangeofresonancefrequencyduetotwolevelsofimpedancecontrastonemaybefromthesurfacelayerandtheothermaybefromthelayerunderneath.ThesetwolevelsofresonanceindicatetheimportanceofconsideringtheeffectsofsurfaceandlowerlayersduringtheplanninganddesigningofinfrastructuresintheKathmanduValley.
简介:Weinvestigatetheeffectsofspontaneouslygeneratedcoherence(SGC)onboththesteadyandtransientgainpropertiesinafour-levelinverted-Y-typeatomicsysteminthepresenceofaweakprobe,twostrongcoherentfields,andanincoherentpump.Forthesteadyprocess,wefindthattheinversionlessgainmainlyoriginsfromSGC.Inparticular,wecanmodulatetheinversionlessgainbychangingtherelativephasebetweenthetwofields.Moreover,theamplitudeofthegainpeakcanbeenhancedandtheadditionalgainpeakcanappearbychangingthedetuningofthecouplingfield.Asforthetransientprocess,thetransientgainpropertiescanalsobedramaticallyaffectedbytheSGC.ComparedtothecasewithoutSGC,thetransientgaincanbegreatlyenhancedwithcompletelyeliminatedtransientabsorptionbychoosingtheproperrelativephasebetweenthetwofields.Andtheinverted-Y-typesystemwithSGCcanbesimulatedinbothatomicandsemiconductorquantumwellsystemsavoidingtheconditionsofSGC.

简介:Anovelapproachtogenerate60GHzopticalcarriersuppression(OCS)millimeter-wave(mm-wave)signalbasedonthesaturatedopticalparametricamplification(OPA)effectinhighnon-linearfiber(HNLF)isinvestigated.Intheproposedsystem,theOPAeffectoccurswhenthesignalandpumpwith30GHzfrequencyintervalaresetintothehighnon-linearfiber.BycontrollingthelengthofHNLF,OPAeffectsaturates,andthepumppowerisdeliveredinalargeextenttothesignalandidlerlight,soa60GHzOCSmm-waveisgenerated.Thesystemdoesnotneedhigh-speedexternalmodulator,high-frequencyvibrationsourceornarrow-bandfilter,whichgreatlyreducesthecostandimprovesthestabilityoftheradiooverfiber(ROF)system.Resultsshowthatthe10Gb/sdownstreamsignalcanbetransmittedwithnegligiblepowerpenalty.
