Theorganizationofthecanonicalgeneticcodeneedstobethoroughlyilluminated.Herewereorderthefournucleotides-adenine,thymine,guanineandcytosine-accordingtotheiremergenceinevolution,andapplytheorganizationalrulestodevisinganalgebraicrepresentationforthecanonicalgeneticcode.Underaframeworkofthedevisedcode,wequantifycodonandaminoacidusagesfromalargecollectionof917prokaryoticgenomesequences,andassociatetheusageswithitsintrinsicstructureandclassificationschemesaswellasaminoacidphysicochemicalproperties.Ourresultsshowthatthealgebraicrepresentationofthecodeisstructurallyequivalenttoacontent-centricorganizationofthecodeandthatcodonandaminoacidusagesunderdifferentclassificationschemeswerecorrelatedcloselywithGCcontent,implyingasetofrulesgoverningcompositiondynamicsacrossawidevarietyofprokaryoticgenomesequences.Theseresultsalsoindicatethatcodonsandaminoacidsarenotrandomlyallocatedinthecode,wherethesix-folddegeneratecodonsandtheiraminoacidshaveimportantbalancingrolesforerrorminimization.Therefore,thecontent-centriccodeisofgreatusefulnessindecipheringitshithertounknownregularitiesaswellasthedynamicsofnucleotide,codon,andaminoacidcompositions.
