Abstract:Foralongtime,teachingstudentstowriteoftenhasbeenfilledwithdifficulties(Firkinsetal,2007).Therefore,duringthelasttwoorthreedecades,thegenre-basedapproachhaswitnessedanincreasingconcernfordevelopingwriting,whichhasalreadybeenprovedtobeasuccessfulapproachtoteachwritinginAustraliancontexts(Martin,2008).However,thissignificantinterestingenre-basedapproachperhapshasnotbeencapturedbyChinesescholarsuntilthelastdecadeintwentiethcentury(Qin,2000).ThereforethisarticleisplannedtoconductthisinvestigationofEnglishSpeechwritingincontextofChengduUniversity,attemptingtorootthisAustralianapproachinChinacontext.

INTRODUCTION
ThepurposeofthisresearchparticularlyfocusonAustraliangenre-basedapproachtoteachEnglishSpeechwritingtoexploreapossibleteachingmethodinChina'seducationcontextamongavailablealternatives.However,sucharelativelynewapproachcouldbeaproblematicissueforteachingEnglishwritinginhighereducationofChina.Itis,therefore,essentialtosetupaninquiryonthepossibilityofthisgenre-basedapproachonsolvingproblemsinChinesestudents'writingseffectively,attemptingtoprovideanvaluableapproachinhighereducationofChina.
RESEARCH
1Methodology
Thegenre-basedapproachderivedfromthetheoreticalworksknownassystematicfunctionallinguistics,developedbyHalliday,viewinglanguageasasetofsystemforcreatingmeaninginsocialcontextandaresourceofcommunication(Halliday,1994).BasedonSFLtheory,genreswereclarifiedandmappedaccordingtotheirdifferentmeaningswithindifferentsocialcontexts,carriedoutbydifferentstages(Martin,2007).Besides,thisgenre-basedapproachhasformedasophisticatedandpracticalpedagogytoteachwriting(Hyland,2007).Amodeldesignedtoinstructstudentstowriteisknownasgenre-basedTeaching-LearningCycle,whichservesaguidancetodesignthisresearchof"scaffolding"studentsintheirspeechcourse.
2Participants
Duringthesix-weekinstruction,thisresearchfollowed28studentsfromZhanglangCollegeinChengduUniversity.Bycomparingtheirinitialandfinaldrafts,thispapertriestofindoutsomevaluableresultsontheapplicationofgenre-basedapproach.
3Analysis
1)Initialdrafts:
Structure:thestructureofspeechdraftisconfused,notclearlydemonstrated
Grammar:Lesspersityandflexibilityinclausestructure;simpleclausesarepredominantinthetext.
Vocabulary:themeaningoftextbecomesobscureandevenincorrect;fewervocabularyoftheexpositionandtherelatedtopic.
Cohesion:manysentencesareindependentandisolated,andsomesentencesstartedorendedabruptly.
2)Finaldrafts:
Structure:structurearewellorganizedaccordingtofeatureofgenre.
Grammar:persityandflexibilitycanbeseeninclausestructure.
Vocabulary:wordsarecarefullyselectedfromlanguageandeducation,givingthereaderanexpressionthatthespeakerwouldbeanexpertofthetopicheorshedelivered;wordsinArgumentativeareusedtodescribespeakers’attitudes.
Cohesion:themeaningsareclearlyexpressedthroughthosecohesivesentenceswithoutanyunnecessaryrepetitionofmanysimplesentences.
IMPLICATIONSANDCONCLUSION
Thisresearchhasgivenasatisfactoryresponsetothepurposethatisplannedtobetriedachieved:Explicitinstructiononhowtoconstructawell-organizedstructureofoneparticulargenreshouldbetakenintoseriousconsiderationbyEnglishteachers;Itisessentialforteacherstoteachgrammarandvocabularyincontext;SincemanyChinesecollegestudentsseldomknowncohesion,instructiononcohesionshouldbeontheteachers'syllabus..
