Thetreesinurbanlandscapes,independentofwhethertheyareinurbanforestsorstandalone,canimproveenvironmentquality,enhanceinpidualandcommunitywell-being,provideawiderangeofservicestoinpidualsandcommunities,andproduceamorehealthfulandcomfortableenvironmentforthevastmajorityofthepopulation.Knowledgeofthepotentialsignificanceoftreesinurbanlandscapesisexpandingrapidlyasresearchcontinuestodocumenttheimportantrolethaturbanforestsandtreescanplayinimprovingthequalityofurbanlife.Theenvironmentalconditionsinurbanlandscapesare,however,verydifferentfromthenaturalconditionsthatthetreespeciesareadaptedto.Thisposesbigchallengestotheurbanforestryinitseffortstocreatehealthyandvaluabletreesinurbanlandscapes.Onlythroughimplementingsomeimportantmeasureswecanensurehighsurvivalrateofsaplingsandwell-beingandlongevityofurbantrees.
