Objective:Tostudytheprevalenceofchondromalaciapatellaamongcollegestudentsandthecorrelationwithsportsinjury.Methods:354studentsfromgymnasticdepartmentand429fromnongymnasticdepartmentwithkneejointpainwereselected.184studentsfromgymnasticdepartmentand342fromnongymnasticdepartmentwerecheckedrandomlybyasurgeon.77patients(37males,40females)fromgymnasticdepartmentand119patients(62males,57females)fromnongymnasticdepartmentwerediagnosedaschondromalaciapatellae.Theamountofexerciseandtheoccurrenceofsportsinjurywereinvestigatedineachstudent.AlldatawereanalyzedwithSPSS10.0statisticalsoftware.Results:Theprevalenceofchondromalaciapatellawas20.1%infemalestudentsand11.6%inmalestudentsfromgymnasticdepartment,and5.61%infemalestudentsand4.92%inmalestudentsfromnongymnasticdepartment.Theamountofexerciseandtheoccurrenceofsportsinjurytothekneejointinstudentsfromgymnasticdepartmentweregreaterthanthosefromnongymnasticdepartment.Conclusions:Inbothfemaleandmalestudents,theprevalenceofchondromalaciapatellaishigheringymnasticdepartmentthannongymnasticdepartment.Sportsinjuryisanimportantcauseofchondromalaciapatella.
