Thispaperpresentsananalyticalstudyontheinfluenceofedgerestrainingstiffnessonthetransversevibrationsofrectangularplatestructure.AnimprovedFourierseriesmethodwasemployedtoanalyzethetransversevibrationofplatestructurewithgeneralelasticallyrestrainedboundaryconditions.AlinearcombinationofadoubleFourierseriesandeightauxiliarytermswassoughtastheadmissiblefunctionoftheflexuraldisplacementoftheplate,eachtermbeingacombinationofapolynomialfunctionandasinglecosineseriesexpansion.Theauxiliarytermswereintroducedtoensureandimprovethesmoothnessoftheoriginaldisplacementfunctionanditsderivativesattheboundaries.Severalnumericalexamplesweregiventodemonstratethevalidityandaccuracyofthecurrentsolution.Theinfluencesoftranslationalandrotationalstiffnessonthenaturalfrequenciesandmodeshapesofplatewereanalyzedbynumericalresults.Theresultsshowthatthetranslationalstiffnesshasbiggerinfluenceonthenaturalfrequenciesthantherotationalstiffness.Itisgenerallywellknownthatlittlechangeoftherotationalstiffnesshaslittleinfluenceonthemodeshapesofplate.However,thecurrentworkshowsthataverylittlechangeofrotationalstiffnessvaluemayleadtoalargechangeofthemodeshapesofasquareplatestructure.
