Smoothedparticlehydrodynamics(SPH)isaLagrangianmeshlessparticlemethod.Itisoneofthebestmethodforsimulatingviolentfreesurfaceflowsinfluidsandsolvinglargefluiddeformations.Dambreakingisatypicalexampleoftheseproblems.ThebasisofSPHwasreviewed,includingsometechniquesforgoverningequationresolution,suchasthesteppingmethodandtheboundaryhandlingmethod.Thennumericalresultsofadambreakingsimulationwerediscussed,andthebenefitsofconceptslikeartificialviscosityandpositioncorrectionwereanalyzedindetail.Whencomparedwithdambreakingsimulatedbythevolumeoffluid(VOF)method,thewaveprofilegeneratedbySPHhadgoodagreement,butthepressurehadonlyreasonableagreement.Improvingpressureresultsisclearlyanimportantnextstepforresearch.
