Agro-Morphological, Physico-Chemical and Molecular Characterization of Rice Germplasm with Similar Names of Bangladesh

Thirty-oneduplicateandsimilarnamedricegermplasmsofBangladeshwerestudiedtoassessthegeneticvariationfortheagro-morphologicalandphysico-chemicaltraitsandsimplesequencerepeatbandingpatternsduring2009–2012atBangladeshRiceResearchInstitute.Therangeofvariationswithinthecultivargroupsshowedhigherdegree.Theprincipalcomponentanalysisshowedthatthefirstfivecomponentswithvectorvalues>1contributed82.90%ofthetotalvariations.Theclusteranalysisgroupedthegenotypesintofourclusters,wherenoduplicategermplasmwasfound.Thehighestnumber(11)ofgenotypeswasconstellatedinclusterIandthelowest(3)inclusterII.Theintra-andinter-clusterdistanceswerethemaximuminclusterI(0.93)andbetweenclustersIanp(24.61),respectively,andtheminimuminclusterIV(0.62)andbetweenclustersIandIII(5.07),respectively.TheclustermeanrevealedthatthecrossesbetweenthegenotypesofclusterIwiththoseofclustersIIanpwouldexhibithighheterosisformaximumgoodcharacters.Atotalof350allelesvariedfrom3(RM277)to14(RM21)withanaverageof7.8perlocusweredetectedat45microsatellitelociacrossthe31riceaccessions.Thegenepersityrangedfrom0.48to0.90withanaverageof0.77,andthepolymorphisminformationcontentvaluesfrom0.44(RM133)to0.89(RM206)withanaverageof0.74.RM206,RM21,RM55,RM258andRM433wereconsideredasthebestmarkersonthebasisoftheirhigherpolymorphisminformationcontentvalues.Thedendrogramfromunweightedpair-groupmethodwitharithmeticaverageclusteringalsoclassifiedthegenotypesintofourgroups,wheregroupIVcomprisedof20genotypesandgroupIIIofonegenotype,butnoduplicatewasfound.Finally,similarandduplicatenamedricegermplasmsneedtobeconservedingenebankasaredistinctfromeachother.
