Accuratediagnosisoftumorsneedsmuchdetailedinformation.However,availablesingleimagingmodalitycannotprovidecompleteorcomprehensivedata.Nanomedicineistheapplicationofnanotechnologytomedicine,andmultimodalityimagingbasedonnanoparticleshasbeenreceivingextensiveattention.Thisnewhybridimagingtechnologycouldprovidecomplementaryinformationfromdifferentimagingmodalitiesusingonlyasingleinjectionofcontrastagent.Inthisreview,weintroducerecentdevelopmentsinmultifunctionalnanoparticlesandtheirbiomedicalapplicationstomultimodalimagingandtheragnosisasnanomedicine.Mostofthereviewedstudiesarebasedontheintrinsicpropertiesofnanoparticlesandtheirapplicationinclinicalimagingtechnology.Theimagingtechniquesincludepositronemissiontomography,single-photonemissioncomputedtomography,computerizedtomography,magneticresonanceimaging,opticalimaging,andultrasoundimaging.
