Moleculardynamics(MD)simulationswereperformedtostretchtherectangulargraphenesheetsdopedwithsilicon,nitrogenorboronatoms.Young’smodulus,ultimatestress(strain)andenergyabsorptionweremeasuredforthegraphenesheetswiththedopingconcentration(DC)rangingfrom0to5%.Theemphasiswasplacedonthedistincteffectsofeachinpidualdopantonthefundamentalmechanicalpropertiesofgraphene.TheresultsindicatedthatincorporatingthedopantsintographeneledtoanalmostlineardecreaseinYoung’smodulus.Monotonicreductionsinultimatestrength,ultimatestrainandenergyabsorptionwerealsoobserved.Suchdopingeffectswerefoundtobemostsignificantforsilicon,lesspronouncedforboron,andsmallornegligiblefornitrogen.Theoutputsprovideanimportantguidanceforthedevelopmentandoptimizationofnovelnanoscaledevices,andfacilitatethedevelopmentofgraphene-basedM/NEMS.
