Faculties Members' Perspectives and Metaphors Towards Universities' Functions: A Case Study in Education Faculties

Thepurposeofthisstudyistodeterminethefunctionsofuniversitiesanduniversities'problemsintherealizationprocessofthesefunctionsaccordingtotheviewsoffacultymembersineducationfaculties.Theresearchdesignwasaholisticmultiplecasestudydesign.Intheselectionofthestudygroup(participants),thecriteriasamplingmethod,whichisoneofthepurposivesamplingmethods,wasused.Semi-structuredinterviewswereused.Theresultsprovideinsightsintothefunctionsofuniversities,illustrateexperiencewithvariousproblems,andoutlinethemetaphorsdevelopedtodescribethefunctionsofuniversitiesbylecturers.Thisstudystrengthensthesocialandscientificframeworkofuniversitiesbasedoninformationprocessingandprovidesaconcretedescriptionaboutorganizationalprocessesinauniversityandhowauniversityputsintopracticeitsownfunctions.Thisstudyhasdemonsratedthatuniversitiesareeducation-orientedinstitutions.Therefore,thefunctionofscientificresearchofuniversitiesshouldbeactivatedbybeingawayfromtheeducation-orientedstructureoftheuniversities.
