ManyobservationsshowthatintheYellowSeainternaltidalwaves(ITWs)possesstheremarkablecharacteristicsofinternalKelvinwave,andintheSouthYellowSea(SYS)thenonlinearevolutionofinternaltidalwavesisoneofthemechanismsproducinginternalsolitarywaves(ISWs),whichisdifferentfromthegenerationmechanisminthecasewherethesemidiurnaltidalcurrentflowsovertopographicdrops.Inthispaper,themodelofinternalKelvinwavewithcontinuousstratificationisgiven,andanelementarynumericalstudyofnonlinearevolutionofITWsismadefortheSYS,usingthegeneralizedKdVmodel(GKdVmodelforshort)foracontinuousstratifiedocean,inwhichthedifferenteffectsofbackgroundbarotropicebbandfloodcurrentsareconsidered.Moreover,theparameterizationofverticalturbulentmixingcausedbyITWsandISWsintheSYSisstudied,usingaparameterizationschemewhichwasappliedtonumericalexperimentsonthebreakingofISWsbyVlasenkoandHutterin2002.Itisfoundthattheverticalturbulentmixingcausedbyinternalwavesisverystrongwithintheupperlayerwithdepthlessthanabout30m,andtheverticalturbulentmixingcausedbyISWsisstrongerthanthatbyITWs.
