Duringthelastdecade,spatio-temporaldatabaseshavebecomeincreasinglyimportantinmanyapplicationssuchasgeographicinformationsystems(GIS)andengineeringinformationsystems.Thispaperdiscussesthedesignandimplementationofageocomputingplatformforthedevelopmentoflocation-basedservices(LBS)focusingonmobilemapping.Duringtheanalysis,design,andimplementationofthegeocomputingplatform,aneffectivemethodisproposedforthereal-timeprocessingofgeographicinformationacquiredbyacameraattachedtoapersonaldigitalassistant(PDA).Thismethodcombineslocationinformationgivenbytheglobalpositionsystem(GPS)withman’sabilitytorecognizethelocationofobjectsandtheirgeographicalrelationshiptoimproveobjectmapping.
