Theinfraredmulti-photondissociation(IRMPD)ofaceticanhydridetogeneratestate-selectedCH2hasbeeninvestigatedbyusingtimeandwavelengthresolvedfluorescencetechniques.IthasbeenobservedthatthegenerationofthenascentgroundstateCH2(a1A1)isdelayedbyabout0.6μsrelativetotheonsettimeoftheexcitedCH2(b1B1).TherelativepopulationofthegroundandexcitedstateCH2andtheonsettimefortheappearanceofthegroundstateCH2havebeenfoundtodependstronglyonCO2laseroutputfluences.TheseresultsappeartohaveastrongbearingonthestructureofthepotentialenergysurfacesoftheintermediateCH2CO.Apossiblephotolysisme-chanismisproposedtoexplaintheseexperimentalresults.
