ThehistogensisofextramammaryPaget’sdiseasehasnotbeensolvedandremainedcontroversial.EightcasesofextramammaryPaget’sdiseaseofgeni-tocruralregionwereinvestigatedbyalcianblueandPASstainandimmunoreactionofanti-CEAandanti-keratin.Itwasfoundthatthepatternandintensityofalcianblue,PASstainingwereidenticalforPagetcellsandsecretorycellsofapocrinesweatgland;andCEAimmunoreactivitywasuniformlyobservedinbothPagetcellsandeccrinesweatgland.Thekeratinimmunoreactionwaspositiveinkeratinocytes,apocrineandeccrinesweatgland,whereasPagetcellswerenegative.TheseresultssuggestedthatPagetcellsofextramammaryPaget’sdiseasecouldbederivedfrommultipotentialepidermalgermcells.
