Measurement and Prediction of Insertion Force for the Mosquito Fascicle Penetrating into Human Skin

摘要 Mosquitoesareexceptionalintheirabilitytopierceintohumanskinwithanaturalultimatepainlessmicroneedle,namedfascicle.HerethestructureoftheAedesalbopictusmosquitofascicleisobtainedusingaScanningElectronMicroscope(SEM),andthewholeprocessofthefascicleinsertingintohumanskinisobservedusingahigh-speedvideoimagingtechnique.Directmeasurementsoftheinsertionforceformosquitofascicletopenetrateintohumanskinarereported.Resultsshowthatthemosquitousesaverylowforce(average18μN)topenetrateintotheskin.Thisforceisatleastthreeordersofmagnitudesmallerthanthereportedlowestinsertionforceforanartificialmicroneedlewithanultrasharptiptoinsertintothehumanskin.Inordertounderstandthepiercingmechanismofmosquitofascicletipintohumanmultilayerskintissue,anumericalsimulationisconductedtoanalyzetheinsertionprocessusinganonlinearfiniteelementmethod.Agoodagreementoccursbetweenthenumericalresultsandtheexperimentalmeasurements.
