简介：Inanimportantjudgment,theSupremeCourtofJusticeoftheNationintroducedinMexicothe“punitivedamages”,aconceptwhichbelongstothecommonlawtraditionandthereforeitisalientothecivillawculturetowhichtheMexicanLegalSystembelongs.Althoughitisaprecedentthatisnotconsolidatedwithstrongbindingeffectsandthereforeotherjudgesarenotforcedtoapplyit,thisdecisionraisestheopportunitytodiscussindepththestifflegalregimeofcivilresponsibilityinMexicotoreviewitspertinence,anditsconformitywiththeconceptof“integralrepair”oftheinternationallawsofhumanrights.Inspiteoftheobjectionsthat,withorwithoutreason,canbeformulatedagainstthatdecisionoftheSupremeCourt,theintroductionofthepunitivedamagesinMexicorepresentsagreatopportunityfortheevolutionofitslegalsystem.
