Noise-inducedhearinglossisacommoncauseofacquiredhearinglossintheadultpopulation.Acousticoverstimulationcausescochleardamagethroughmechanicalstresstothetissue.Consequently,complexmolec-ularchangesareinitiated,andthesechangesleadtomorphologicalandbiologicalalterationsinthecochlea,whichinturncompromisethecochlearfunctionandcausehearingloss.Inthepast10years,therehavebeensignificantadvancesinourunderstandingofthemolecularmechanismsofnoise-inducedhearingloss.Theseadvancesareattributed,inpart,tothedevelopmentofhigh-throughputtechnologiesfortheglobalanalysesofmolecularchanges.Inthisreview,webrieflydescribethenewlydevelopedmethodsforinvestigatingthemo-lecularresponsesofthecochleatoacoustictraumaandtheknowledgegeneratedfromthesestudies.Wealsodiscussthestrengthsandlimitationsofeachtechniqueandthemajorchallengestoinvestigatecochleardegen-erationfollowingacousticinjury.
