摘要 ThispaperistorevealsomeconnotativedifferencesinEnglishandChinese.Ignoranceofconnotativedifferencemayresultindifficultyorevenfailureincross-culturalcommunication.Therefore,theauthorproposesthatsomecomparativestudiesbemadetofindout,withthesamereferenceinbothEnglishandChinese,whatconnotationsaresharedbybothEnglishandChineseandwhatareuniqueeitherinEnglishorinChinese,asisillustratedinthispaper,soastocontributetoteachingEnglishinChina.Finally,theauthorsincerelyhopeshisdiscussioninthispapercouldsensitizethedictionarymakersortextbookcompilersstillfurthertotheneedsoftheChineselearnersofEnglish.Itisthey,hebelieves,whoneedhelpthemostfromsomesuchdictionariesortextbooks.
