In2005,significantrainfallreinforcementandseveredisasterwasinducedbytropicalcyclone(TC)TalimafteritmadelandfallontheeastofChina.Observationalanalysesshowthatithasrelationshipwithcoldairintrusion.Forinvestigatingtheimpactofcoldairintensity,wemakeuseofWeatherResearchandForecasting(WRF)model,thesynthesizerofNCEP/NCARreanalysisdataandJapanregionalspectralmodeldata,tocarryoutnumericalexperiments.Resultsshowthatrainfallreinforcementoccursinallexperiments.Differentintensityofcoldaircanmodifytherainfalldistributionandintensitysignificantly.Intherainfallcenter,theincrementmaximumofrainfallistwiceaslargeasthatoftheminimum.Moderatecoldairintrusionmayresultinthestrongestrainfallreinforcement.Differentcoldairintensitycanleadtodifferentmotionoflow-levelconvergencelinesandfronts.Thereisagoodrelationshipbetweentherainfallregionandtheeasternpartofthefront.Ononehand,strongcoldairweakenstheTCintensitybyitsintrusionintotheTCcenterandresultsinweakconvergenceandaconvergentzoneandarainbandshiftedsouthward.Ontheotherhand,weakcoldairreducestheconvergenceandmovestheconvergentzoneandrainbandnorthward.Moderatecoldairintrusionmaintainsstronglow-levelconvergenceandhigh-leveldivergence,keepingstrongupwardmotionovercertainregions.Consequently,therainbandbeginstostagnateandrainfallreinforcesabruptlytherein.
