Rate-distortion optimized bitstream switching for peer-to-peer live streaming

摘要 Peer-to-peer(P2P)technologyprovidesacost-effectiveandscalablewaytodistributevideodata.However,highheterogeneityoftheP2Pnetwork,whichrisesnotonlyfromheterogeneouslinkcapacitybetweenpeersbutalsofromdynamicvariationofavailablebandwidth,bringsforwardgreatchallengetovideostreaming.Toattackthisproblem,anadaptiveschemebasedonrate-distortionoptimization(RDO)isproposedinthispaper.WhilelowcomplexityRDObasedframedroppingisexploitedtoshapebitrateintoavailablebandwidthinpeers,thestreamedbitstreamisdynamicallyswitchedamongmultipleavailableversionsinanRDOwaybythestreamingserver.SimulationresultsshowthattheproposedschemebasedonRDOachievesgreatgaininoverallperceivedqualityoversimpleheuristicschemes.
