摘要
ThedevelopmentofearthquakeengineeringinChinaisdescribedintothreestages.Theinitialstagein1950's-1960'swasmarkedwiththeinitiationofthisbranchofsciencefromitscreationinthefirstnational12-yearplanofscienceandtechnologybyspecifyingearthquakeengineeringasabranchitemandIEMwasoneparticipant.Thefirstearthquakezonationmapandthefirstseismicdesigncodeweresooncompletedandusedinengineeringdesign.Siteeffectonstructuraldesignandsiteselectionwereseriouslystudied.ThesecondstagemarkedwiththeoccurrenceofquiteafewstrongearthquakesinChina,fromwhichmanylessonswerelearnedandcorrespondingconsiderationswerespecifiedinourdesigncodesandfollowedinconstructionpractice.Thethirdstageisastageofdisastermanagement,whichismarkedbyaseriesofgovernmentdocumentations,leadingbyanationallawofthePeople'sRepublicofChinaontheprotectingagainstandmitigatingearthquakedisastersadoptedatthemeetingoftheStandingCommitteeoftheNationalPeople'sCongressofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain1997,andthenfollowedbysomeprovincialandmunicipallawstoforcetheactionsoutlinedinthenationallaw.Itmaybeexpectedthatoursocietywillbemuchmoresafertoresisttheattackoffuturestrongearthquakeswithlesslosses.Lastly,possiblefuturedevelopmentsarealsodiscussed.
