摘要
SedimentsupplytothelowerJingjiangRiverwillbesubjecttosubstantialreductionaftertheimpoundmentoftheThreeGorgesReservoir,whichcouldresultinanexcessofcarryingcapacityandseriousbankerosionsinthedownstreamalluvialchannel,threateningthebankprotectionworksandthesafetyoftheJingjiangDyke.ThispaperpresentsasummaryofresearchworksconcerningthefluvialprocessesinthelowerJingjiangRiverandthepossibleimpactoftheThreeGorgesReservoirimpoundmentonthevariationofitschannelpattern.Threedifferentpredictionshavebeenputforwardbyresearchers:1)theJingjiangRiverwillevolvetowardsamoresinuous,meanderingchannelpattern,withextensivebankerosiontakingplacealongtheriver;2)theriverchannelwillbestraightenedandbroadenedbecausenopointbarcanbeformedduetoreducedsedimentsupplywhilebankerosiondevelopsintheconcavebank,and3)thisriverreachwillmaintainitspresentchannelpatternwithoutsignificantchange,althoughthesinuositymaybeslightlyreduced,since:a)theThreeGorgesReservoirmainlyinterceptsedimentparticleswithsizeslargerthan0.025mm,andb)thecomplexinteractionbetweentheYangtzeRiverandtheDongtingLakehelpstoreducethenegativeeffectofchannelerosionthroughcertainself-adjustingmechanisminfluvialprocesses.DiscrepancybetweenthesepredictionsshowsthatfurtherresearcheffortsareneededtounderstandtheimpactofThreeGorgesReservoiroperationonthedownstreamfluvialprocesses.Meanwhile,thereisanurgentneedtocloselymonitorfuturedevelopmentinthefluvialprocessesoftheJingjiangRiveranditsinfluenceonthesafetyoftheJingjiangDykes.
