Summarizingtheexistingdataofseismologicalandgeologicalinvestigationsanclorstrongandintermediate-strongearthquakesintheSichuanbasinanditsadjacentareasaccumulatedbytheseismologicalandpetroleumorganizationsinSichuanandoftheresultsofseismicprospectinganddetailedexplorationinChengdudepressionduringthelast20yearspermittednstostudythetypesanddistributionofhiddenstructuresinChengdudepressionanditsadjacentareas,inparticular,toidentifyindetailthe"hiddenfaults"intheChenngdu-Deyangareaontheonehand;TheobtaineddataindicatethattheNE-trendingXinjinfaultrunsnorthwardanddiesoutinthesouthofPenzhentownofShuangiiuCounty.Meanwhile,westudiedgeneticrelationsofseismicactivitytoactivefaultsandtheircorrespondingmovementcharacteristicsontheotherhand.Moreover,thesurfacefaultsanddeep-seatedfaultsareclearlydefinedandoutlined,and5typesofseismogenicfaultssuggested.TheknowledgethusobtainedenablesustodelimitthefocalzonesforpotentialstrongearthquakesinChengdudepression.Thestudysuggeststhatazoneof40kmwideandmorethan100kmlongonsidesalongtheChengdu-Deyanglinehasastableseismogeologicalbackgroundandgoodengineering-seismologicalconditions.
