XunKuangwasanativeoftheStateofZhao（intoday'sAnzeCounty).HewasagreatmaterialistthinkerandConfucianscholarduringthelaterWarringPeriodonanintellectualparwithMencius.TodayXunKuang'swritingssurviveinaworkknownasTheXunziwhichcontains32chapters.Theseworks,writtenmostlybyXunKuanghimself,dealwithsuchfieldsasphilosophy,logic,politicsandmoralily.Hewasagainstthebeliefofthemandateofheavenandblindworshipofthesupernatural.Hemaintainedthatnaturalrulewasindependentofthewillofhumanbeingsandthatmancouldprevailoverheaven.
