Italyhasalong-standingtraditionofearthquakeinvesti-gations.Seismologistscanrelyononeofthelongestandmostdetailedrecordsofhistoricalseismic#y,20yearsofhomogeneousandreliableinstrumentaldata,systematicandwidespreadactivestressdataandacomprehensivedatabaseofpotentialseismogenicsources.Herewedescribethesedatasetsanddiscusshowtheymayhelpusanticipatethelargeearthquakesofthefuture.
