摘要
Graphitehasbeencurrentlyconsideredasapromisingcathodematerialindualionbatteries(DIBs)duetoitsuniquefeaturesofsp2hybridizedcarbonandstackedtwo-dimensionallayeredstructures.However,unexpectedvolume/thicknesschangesinthegraphitecathodes,inducedbytheintercalation/deintercalationofanionswithlargemolecularsizehavebeenknowntobeacriticalproblemindesigningDIBcells.Tounderstandthevolume/thicknesschangesintheDIBelectrodes,inoperandoopticalobservingapparatushasbeenemployedtoobservethecross-sectionviewofagraphite-basedcathodeuponcyclesinthepresentwork.Theobservationsuggeststhatthecathodeinitiallypresentedahugeirreversiblethicknesschange(60%),andsuchthicknessvariationwaspronetoreduceandremain<20%inthefollowingcycles.Theresultsfrombothinoperandoobservationandelectrochemicalcharacterizationscollectivelyindicatethatthegreaterthicknessvariationatinitialcycleshouldbeattributedtobothanionintercalationintographite-basedcathodesandirreversibledecompositionofchemicalcomponentsintheDIBsystem.Themethodherehighlightsauniversalrouteforfundamentallyunderstandingtheelectrodesofhugevolumevariation.
