The Effect of Spherical Surface on Noise Suppression of a Supersonic Jet

摘要 Experimentswerecarriedouttoeliminatethescreechtonegeneratedfromasupersonicjet.Compressedairwaspassedthroughacircularconvergentnozzleprecededbyastraighttubeofsamediameter.Inordertoreducethejetscreechasphericalreflectorwasusedandplacedatthenozzleexit.Theplacementofthesphericalreflectoratthenozzleexitcontrolledthelocationoftheimagesourceaswellasminimizedthesoundpressureatthenozzleexit.Theweaksoundpressuredidnotexcitetheunstabledisturbanceattheexit.Thustheloopofthefeedbackmechanismcouldnotbeaccomplishedandthejetscreechwaseliminated.Thetechniqueofscreechreductionwithaflatplatewasalsoexaminedandcomparedwiththepresentmethod.Agoodandeffectiveperformanceincancelingthescreechcomponentbythenewmethodwasfoundbytheinvestigation.Experimentalresultsindicatethatthenewsystemsuppressesnotonlythescreechtonesbutalsothebroadbandnoisecomponentsandreducestheoverallnoiseofthejetflow.Thesphericalreflectorwasfoundveryeffectiveinreducingoverallsoundpressurelevelintheupstreamregionofthenozziecomparedtoaflatplate.Thepropsedsphericalreflectorcan.accordingly,protecttheupstreamnoisepropagation.
