Jump rule for edge impacts of rolling prisms

摘要 Westudyexperimentallyandtheoreticallytheplanardynamicsofpurelyrollingprismsonaroughramp,wheretherollingmotionisinterruptedintermittentlybyedgeimpacts.Theexperimentswerecarriedoutforprismsmadeofdifferentmaterialsandhavingdifferentgeometries.Wefoundthattheangularvelocitiesoftherollingprismsarematerial-independent,buttheychangesignificantlywiththeirgeometry.Wemodelledthedynamicsofedgeimpactsbyconsideringasocalleddetachmentfrontpropagatingacrossthecontactinterface.Thedetachmentfrontrepresentsthemovingboundarybetweenadetachedregionandastressregionthatcoexistwithintheinterfaceplane.Thetheoreticalanalysisindicatesthatthedetachmentfrontcanbecharacterizedbyascalenumber,whosevalueconvergesto0.4050forprismshavinglargenumberofedges.Anewjumpruleforedgeimpactsisthendeveloped,bywhichwecanaccuratelyreproducetheexperimentalobservations,andexplainwhythemotionoftheprismismaterial-independent.
