摘要
Anewdatasetofobservationsbysixcruisesofship-mountedacousticdopplercurrentprofiler(SADCP)andthree40dlongbottom-mountedADCPs(BADCPs)isemployedtorevealthespatiotemporalvariabilityoftidalandsubtidalcurrentsinthewesternTaiwanStrait(TWS)duringwinterseason.TheresultsconfirmtheexistenceofintensecotidallinesforM_2tidalcurrent,whichislocatednorthof25°N.Inthiscase,noexistenceofanamphidromicpointcanbeidentified.Itisalsorevealedthatthecounter-windcurrent(CWC)canextendthroughthewholewesternTWSandevenoccupytheentirewatercolumnduringwintermonsoonrelaxation.However,thisCWCisobservedtobethoroughlyoverwhelmedbythedownwindChinacoastalcurrent(CCC)duringthetwobigmonsoonbloomeventsinthewinterof2007,andtheCCCconsequentlyextendssouthwardthroughoutthewesternTWSinstead.Mostimportantly,thevariationofthespatialextentfortheCWCandtheCCCinthewesternTWSisfoundtobewellexplainedbythefirsttwomodesofthevectorempiricalorthogonalfunction(VEOF)analysis,thatis,itismainlycontrolledbyawind-drivenquasibarotropiccurrentasthefirstmodeandslightlymodulatedbyarelativelyweakbackgroundcurrentwithafirst-orderbaroclinicstructureasthesecondmode.
